My first interview ....

Following the advice of Swen, today I've performed a interview to my good friend and great IT developer Pep. He knows well the big data world. We talk about how he thinks that people uses their data and I've asked to him how should I focus my job to answer my research questions. This "survey" was developed during a relaxed conversation while I was taking some notes.
This is the summary of the most interesting conclusions I got:

(TM) - In our daily life, is people aware about the huge amount of data that they self is generating?
(PG) - I think that users are not worried about how their information is managed. Nowadays people only look for speed, good services and connectivity. Required infrastructure is not in the thoughts of users. Users spend mega/giga bytes of space without any consideration or concern. They are implicitly assuming that the hard drive is almost infinite and free. So people are aware about the amount of data generated? It does not matter! They would not even arise...

(TM) - Do you think that there is a common feeling about "don't care about space used to manage information"?
(PG) - Definitely no. There is a special community that should be the main interested on preserve the digital resources: the developers and application analysts.
I remember when I developed my first application in an Oric Atmos: 48 kb of "pure powerful"! Before developers were careful with the size of the programs. Now it seems that it doesn't matter. In some way, the necessity to dispose of more and more space is a fact to stimulate the hardware industry. It is like a symbiosis.
If the community that manages the raw source that generates data (software and hardware) are not careful with the spend space, this feeling is not transmitted to the final customers and then, they are not aware about the concept about the excess of produced information.

(TM) - Is there a good security in the cloud to keep the privacy of our data?
(PG) - There is good platforms and there is other not good enough. Nevertheless I can tell you that big companies like Amazon or Google are dedicating big efforts to guarantee the security of our data. Precisely past this week, Amazon has organized an important event in Las Vegas announcing new products where the data security is the main actor. Today I've read a news related with the security that the FTC is demanding to Apple regarding health data of consumers(*). Yes, we have tools to manage our cloud and data security, but we must know how to use.

(TM) - How do you think that I could evaluate the confidence of the people in big data?
(PG) - I think that people is not aware about their data is being used in an environment where huge amount of information is mixed and treated in real time (advertisements, market trends, etc.). I think that should be better to do direct and simple questions about the feeling that consumers have regarding two main topics: personnel and economic data.

(*) Afterwards I looked for this information and I found it in http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/11/13/us-apple-ftc-exclusive-idUSKCN0IX2I520141113 (U.S. FTC asking Apple about health data protection)
